Chief Instructor

Robert Cheshire, Sensei has been studying martial arts for over 35 years. He has specialized in a combination of Yoseikan Budo and Gyokushin Ryu Aikido since 1994. He was promoted to Shodan (1st degree black belt) in 2000, Nidan (2nd degree black belt) in 2004, Sandan (3rd degree black belt) in 2014, and Yondan (4th degree black belt) in 2017. Robert is currently Godan - Shihan Dai(5th degree black belt) He has trained extensively with the Director of the United States Gyokushin Ryu Aikido techinal director, Glenn Pack, Shihan and Ms. Patricia Saiz, Shihan. He has also trained in a group and privately with Master Hiroo Mochizuki the son of Master Minoru Mochizuki founder of Yoseikan Budo and Mitchi Mochizuki the grandson of Master Minoru Mochizuki. Robert has also travled to Japan train under the direction of Terumi Washizu, the Grandmaster of Gyokushin Ryu Aikido.


Assistant Instructors

Jeffrey Cuevas is an 18-year member of Texas Aikido. He holds a second degree blackbelt, Nidan, and is one of the assistant instructors at the dojo. Jeffrey has been a Physical Therapist in Nacogdoches for the past 25 years. He has his private practice, NRG Aquatic Therapy on University Drive, which specializes in Orthopedic and Manual Therapy. Both his sons, Jakob and Isaak have trained with Texas Aikido. Jeff and his family love the outdoors and frequently camp, mountain bike and hike while visiting different States. Jeff's hobbies include mountain biking, rock climbing and scuba diving.

Brent Gotcher Nidan-Joyko (Second Degree Blackbelt-assistant instructor) Brent has studies Gyokushin Ryu Aikido for 5 year. He is assistant children’s program instructor. He has had the pleasure of traveling to Japan to study under Grandmaster Terumi Washizu Koncho of Gyokushin Ryu Aikido. In addition to Aikido, he has trained in Juijitsu.
